Why Configure Taxes First

  • Correct pricing displays to customers

  • Accurate invoice calculations

  • Proper tax collection from day one

Canadian Tax Overview

How Taxes Work

In Canada, you'll collect one or two types of sales tax:Option 1: HST (Harmonized Sales Tax)

  • Single combined tax in Ontario, Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, Newfoundland, and PEI

  • Rates: 13% (Ontario) or 15% (Atlantic provinces)

Option 2: GST + PST

  • GST: 5% federal tax (all provinces)

  • PST: Provincial tax in BC (7%), Saskatchewan (6%), Manitoba (7%), Quebec (9.975% QST)

Option 3: GST Only

  • Alberta, Northwest Territories, Nunavut, Yukon

  • Only 5% GST applies

Quick Setup Guide

Step 1: Access Tax Settings

From your facility dashboard:

  • Go to Settings or Paramètres

  • Click Tax Configuration or Configuration fiscale

Step 2: Enter Your Tax Information

For HST Provinces (Ontario, Atlantic)

  • Select "HST" as tax type

  • Enter your combined rate (13% or 15%)

  • Add your Business Number (15 digits: 123456789 RT 0001)

For GST + PST Provinces

  • Configure GST at 5%

  • Add provincial PST rate

  • Enter both federal and provincial tax numbers

For GST-Only Provinces

  • Configure only GST at 5%

  • Leave provincial fields empty

Step 3: Save and Verify

  • Review your settings

  • Save configuration

  • Tax calculation will now apply to all pricing

Verification Checklist

After setup, verify:

  • [ ] Tax rates match your province

  • [ ] Business number format is correct
