When you create a manual rental and choose Pre-authorized debit as the payment method, Stortech can't record a bank account directly in the form the way it does a credit card. Instead, the customer gets a setup invite email with a secure Stripe link to configure their own bank account, at their own pace.
Who this article is for
Creating a manual rental generally needs the Owner or Manager role.
Before you start
Pre-authorized debit (ACSS/PAD) must be enabled on your Stripe account, and the customer's email must be accurate: that's the address the setup invite is sent to.
Creating the rental
Step 1.
Follow the usual steps in Create a manual rental: customer, unit, rate, move-in date.
Step 2.
In the Payment information section, choose the Credit card tile (it's labeled "Automatic pre-authorized debit via Stripe" and notes you'll be redirected to Stripe). That Stripe redirect is what offers the choice between card and bank account when your account is eligible.
Step 3.
Click Create rental. Stortech automatically sends the customer a setup invite email with a link to configure their bank account through Stripe.
The rental record shows the Pending status with the agreed monthly rate (not $0.00) until the customer completes that step.
What the customer experiences
They receive the invite email and click the link. They're taken to a Stripe-hosted page to set up their bank account (instant verification via Plaid, or manual entry followed by micro-deposits). A confirmation page tells them setup was submitted successfully.
What happens automatically
Once the bank account is set up, the mandate follows the standard ACSS/PAD verification process (1 to 5 business days for the first payment to be confirmed). The rental moves from Pending to Active once the first invoice is confirmed paid. Gate access is provisioned after that first confirmation, as with any pre-authorized debit rental.
Common issues
The customer never received the invite email.
What to check: does the rental's Emails tab show it was sent? Is the customer's email correct?
What to do: fix the email if needed and resend the invite from the rental record.
The rental has stayed Pending for several days.
What to check: did the customer complete the bank step? Is verification still in progress?
What to do: bank verification can take up to a few business days; see Pre-authorized debit (ACSS/PAD) for timeline details.
Common questions
Does the customer need to be at the office? No. They complete the bank step themselves via the emailed link, whenever they want.
What does the rental show in the meantime? Pending status with the agreed monthly rate (not $0.00), until the customer finishes setting up their bank account.
What happens once the bank account is set up? The mandate follows the same verification process as a standard pre-authorized debit: see Pre-authorized debit (ACSS/PAD) for timelines (1 to 5 business days) and access provisioning.
The customer says they didn't get the email. What do I do? Check the rental's Emails tab to confirm it was sent, and resend the invite if needed.
