Overview

Unit types are categories that group your storage units by size, features, and pricing. For example, "5x5 Climate Controlled" or "10x10 Drive-Up" are unit types. Before you can add individual units, you must first create at least one unit type.

What is a Unit Type?

A unit type defines:

• Size - Dimensions (e.g., 5' x 5', 10' x 10')

• Features - Climate control, drive-up access, indoor/outdoor, floor number

• Pricing - Monthly rental rate

• Pricing Method - Fixed rate or variable by unit

• Description - Details shown to customers

• Image - Visual representation on your storefront

Think of it this way:

• Unit Type = The category (e.g., "10x10 Indoor")

• Units = The actual storage spaces (e.g., Unit 101, Unit 102, Unit 103)

Prerequisites

• Facility already created

• Pricing information for different unit sizes

Tips & Best Practices

Naming Conventions:

• Be consistent across all unit types

• Include dimensions - Customers search by size

• Mention key features - Climate control, drive-up, floor number

• Avoid abbreviations - Use "Climate Controlled" not "CC"

Pricing Strategy:

• Research competitor pricing in your area

• Price based on size, floor level, features, and access type

Common Questions

Q: Can I change the price after creating a unit type?

A: Yes, but it only affects new bookings. Existing subscriptions keep their original rate.

Q: What if I have units of the same size but different prices?

A: Create multiple unit types: "10x10 (Ground Floor)" and "10x10 (2nd Floor)" with different pricing.

Q: Should I create separate types for climate-controlled units?

A: Yes! Customers specifically search for climate control. Make it clear in the unit type name.

Q: How many unit types can I create?

A: No limit. Create as many as you need to accurately represent your inventory.
