A unit type is a template that defines the dimensions, features (climate-controlled, indoor, floor), monthly price, taxes, security deposit, and move-in/move-out instructions for every unit linked to it. It's what appears in the public storefront to customers looking to book, and it determines how much each unit costs per month.
Who this article is for
Viewing unit types is available to all roles. Creating and editing requires the Owner or Manager role. If the New unit type button is missing, ask an Owner on your team.
Before creating a unit type
Before filling in the form, decide: the space type (Storage or Parking — Parking disables the climate-controlled and indoor options), the exact dimensions (width × length × height, in feet and inches), whether the unit is climate-controlled or not, whether it's indoor or outdoor, the default monthly price, whether a security deposit is required at signing, and whether taxes apply to the rent.
View unit types
Step 1.
From the left menu, click Unit types.
Step 2.
The list shows every template with its price, features, and status.
Step 3.
Use the Search a unit type field to filter by name or dimensions, and the Space type dropdown to show only Storage or Parking types.
Create a new unit type
Step 1.
Click New unit type at the top right. The Add a unit type page opens, divided into sections.

Step 3.
Enter the width, length, and height in feet and inches. Then choose a size category (Small, Medium, Large) based on the options your facility offers — used for filters in the public storefront.
Features
Step 4.
Check Climate-controlled if the unit has climate control, Indoor if it's inside the building, and enter a floor if applicable.
Identification
Step 5.
Fill in the Unit name (for example Heated 5x10 unit, visible in the storefront) and the Short description (for example Perfect for storing furniture).
Pricing
Step 6.
Enter the default Monthly price. Check Apply taxes to automatically add your facility's taxes (GST, QST, or others). Check Require a deposit if you want to collect a security deposit at signing, and enter the amount.
Instructions
Step 7.
Write the Move-in instructions (access code, hours, location — shown in the welcome email and portal) and the Move-out instructions (key handoff procedure, inspection, required cleaning — shown when scheduling a move-out).
Storefront preview
On the right of the form, the Storefront preview shows in real time how the unit type will be presented to customers. The Book button in the preview is non-interactive — it's a mockup only.
Step 8.
Click Create unit type, or Cancel to exit without saving.
Edit an existing unit type
Step 1.
Click the type in the list to open its record.
Step 2.
Edit the fields you need.
Step 3.
Save.
Editing a type's price doesn't change active rentals using that type — the new price applies to new bookings only.
What happens automatically
Once a type is created, it's available for adding new units, in the public storefront (if visible with an active price), and when creating a manual rental. Taxes are calculated automatically on every invoice if Apply taxes is checked and your facility has at least one active tax. Move-in and move-out instructions appear in emails and the customer portal at the right time. Editing a type's price does not retroactively change active rentals.
