A unit type is a template that defines the dimensions, features (climate-controlled, indoor, floor), monthly price, taxes, security deposit, and move-in/move-out instructions for every unit linked to it. It's what appears in the public storefront to customers looking to book, and it's what determines how much each unit costs per month.
Common questions
How do I add a new unit model (for example a new 5x10 format)? Click New unit type at the top right of the Unit types page, and fill in the form with dimensions, price, options, and instructions.
How do I change the monthly price of a unit type? Click the type in the list to open its record, edit the price, and save. The change applies to new bookings only, not to existing rentals.
Why doesn't a unit type appear in the public storefront? It must have an image, an active price, and be marked publicly visible.
How do I require a security deposit for a unit type? In the type's record, Pricing section, check Require a deposit and enter the amount.
Why aren't taxes calculated on the invoices of a unit type? Check that Apply taxes is checked on the type, and that your facility has taxes configured in the settings.
Who this article is for
Viewing unit types is available to all roles. Creating and editing requires the Owner or Manager role. If the New unit type button is missing, ask an Owner on your team.
Before creating a unit type
Before filling in the form, decide:
the exact dimensions (width x length x height, in feet and inches);
whether the unit is climate-controlled or not;
whether it's indoor or outdoor;
the default monthly price;
whether a security deposit is required at signing;
whether taxes apply to rent.
View unit types
To see every unit type configured on your facility:
From the left menu, click Unit types.
The list shows every model with its price, features, and status.
Use the Search a unit type field to filter by name or dimensions.
Create a new unit type
To add a model (for example a new format or a climate-controlled type):
Click New unit type at the top right.
The Add a unit type page opens, split into sections.

Check Indoor if the unit is inside the building.
Enter a floor if applicable (useful for multi-floor facilities).

Move-out instructions: key return procedure, final inspection, required cleaning. The customer will see this when scheduling their move-out.
Storefront preview
To the right of the form, the Storefront preview shows in real time how the unit type will be presented to the customer. The Book button in the preview isn't interactive, it's just a mock-up.
When everything's filled in, click Create the unit type, or Cancel to exit without saving.
Edit an existing unit type
Click the type in the list to open its record.
Edit the fields you need.
Save.
Editing the price of a type doesn't change active rentals using that type, the new price applies to new bookings only.
What happens automatically
Once the type is created, it's available to add new units, in the public storefront (if visible with an active price), and in manual rental creation.
Taxes are automatically calculated on every invoice if Apply taxes is checked and your facility has at least one active tax.
Move-in and move-out instructions appear in emails and the customer portal at the right time.
Editing the price of a type doesn't retroactively change active rentals. The change applies to new bookings only.
