You can remove a unit from your inventory directly from its record. Depending on the unit's history, Stortech automatically chooses the right outcome: permanently delete it (for a unit created by mistake) or archive it (for a unit that has already been used). A unit occupied or reserved by an active rental can't be deleted until the move-out is completed.
Who this article is for
Deleting or archiving a unit requires the Owner or Manager role. If the Delete option is missing from a unit's menu, ask an Owner on your team.
Permanent deletion or archiving: how Stortech decides
When you start the deletion, Stortech first checks the unit's history and tells you what will happen before any confirmation:
Outcome | When | What happens |
Permanent deletion | No history; often created by mistake. | Removed permanently; irreversible. |
Archiving | Has a history (leases, invoices...). | Removed; reversible, history kept. |
Deletion blocked | An active lease occupies the unit. | Refused; finish the move-out first. |
Deleting or archiving a unit
Step 1.
From the left menu, open Units and click the unit you want to open its record.
Step 2.
At the top of the record, click the More actions button (next to Change status), then choose Delete.
Step 3.
A window analyzes the unit and shows the outcome:
— No history: it states the unit will be permanently deleted and reminds you the action is irreversible.
— With history: it states the unit will be archived and lists its history (number of leases, invoices, contracts, etc.).
— With an active lease: it explains you must complete the move-out or cancel the booking first. No confirm button appears.
Step 4.
Click Delete to confirm. A message confirms "Unit ... permanently deleted" or "Unit ... archived", then you're redirected to the unit list.
What happens when a unit is archived
The unit disappears from the unit list, the facility map, search, reports, occupancy rate, and the public storefront.
Its past leases, invoices, and contracts stay viewable from their respective records.
Its number becomes available again: a new unit can reuse it.
No email is sent to the tenant or your team.
Restoring an archived unit
Archiving is reversible, but self-serve restoration isn't available yet. To recover an archived unit, contact support. If another active unit has already taken the same number in the meantime, that number conflict will need to be resolved before restoring.
Common issues
The Delete option is missing from the unit's menu. Your role: deletion requires the Owner or Manager role. Ask an Owner on your team.
The window says the unit can't be deleted. Does an active lease occupy the unit? Complete the tenant's move-out or cancel the booking, then try again.
I removed a unit by mistake. Was it archived (with history) or permanently deleted (no history)? An archived unit can be restored by support. Permanent deletion only targets units with no history and isn't reversible.
You created a unit under the wrong unit type (wrong size or format). The type is fixed at the moment a unit is created and can't be reassigned afterward. Delete the unit created by mistake (no history, it will be permanently deleted), then recreate it under the right type with Add units from the Units page.
To manage the rest of your inventory (view, search, add units), see the Units article. To fix the price or dimensions for an entire unit type (rather than a single unit), see Unit types.
