Once SMS notifications are activated for your facility (see Turn on SMS notifications), you choose, for each type of notification sent to your customers, whether it's also sent by text in addition to email. Email is always sent and can't be disabled; only SMS is configurable, trigger by trigger.
Who this article is for
Changing notification preferences requires the Owner or Manager role.
Where to find the page
Step 1.
From the main menu, click Settings.
Step 2.
In the navigation column, under the Communication group, click Notifications.
This same page also serves as the transactional email template catalog — see Transactional email templates. The SMS column described here only appears when your facility's SMS add-on is active; otherwise the page shows only the email catalog, with no mention of SMS at all.
What's on the page
A banner at the top reads: "Every notification below is always sent by email. Turn on SMS for the ones you also want to text your customers." Notifications are grouped into collapsible categories (for example billing, bookings, lifecycle), with a count of items in each. For each eligible row:
SMS — a toggle if the notification is eligible for SMS, or a dash (—) if it isn't yet.
Turning SMS on or off for a notification
Step 1.
Expand the category and find the notification in the list.
Step 2.
Click the row's SMS toggle to turn it on or off.
Step 3.
The change saves immediately and stays in effect even after leaving or reloading the page.
Good to know
SMS-eligible notifications are turned on by default as soon as SMS is approved for your facility; use this page to turn off the ones you don't want sent by text.
Each SMS sent counts toward the per-message cost of your SMS subscription.
Clicking a notification's name (rather than its SMS toggle) opens the matching email template's editor.
Common questions
What happened to the "Preferences" page? It merged with the email template catalog into a single Notifications page, under the Communication settings group.
Do I need to activate SMS before using this page? Yes. Without an approved registration, no SMS is sent, and the SMS column doesn't even appear on the page.
Can every notification be sent by SMS? No. Only certain notifications qualify; the others show a dash (—) and aren't editable.
Can a customer opt out of texts? Yes. Every SMS includes an opt-out notice (STOP). An opted-out customer no longer receives SMS, but keeps receiving their emails normally.
Does a change here affect email? No. Email always stays active; this page only touches the SMS channel.
