Size guide

A tool on your public storefront that automatically recommends the right unit size to your customers based on what they're storing.

Written by Etienne Champagne

The size guide is a tool on your public storefront that helps prospects choose the right unit: they tap or describe what they want to store, and the tool recommends a size from your real inventory, with a visual preview that fills up as they go.

Who this article is for

This article describes what your customers see and do on your storefront's size guide. Browsing the storefront needs no role and no authentication. Turning the guide on for your storefront needs the Owner or Manager role.

Before you start

The guide is off by default on every storefront: turn it on under Settings → Storefront, in the Size guide section, with the Show the size guide on my storefront switch. It saves immediately, no other button to click.

Once it's on, the guide only recommends units already visible on your storefront. The guide's entry point (the Find my size button) also only appears if your facility has at least one storage unit type (not just parking) that is visible and has its width and length filled in. If the button doesn't appear on a facility, check all three: the switch, the unit's visibility, and its dimensions.

What your customers see and do

Opening the guide

On the storefront's unit listing page, a "What size do I need?" card appears above the list with a Find my size button. The customer lands on a dedicated page with an assistant on the left and a unit preview on the right.

Adding what they're storing

Three ways to add items, and they can combine them: quick-add tiles for common large items (sofa, bed, fridge, washer, dresser, TV…), room presets (Studio, 1-bedroom, 2-bedroom, Bedroom, Living room, Boxes only, Parking) that add a typical bundle in one click, and a free-text box where the customer describes their situation in their own words ("a 2-bedroom with a fridge").

The tiles and presets are instant and don't depend on any AI. Only the free-text box calls an assistant: if it's temporarily unavailable, a message says so, but the tiles and presets keep working.

Seeing the recommendation

As the customer adds items, a recommendation banner shows the size, price and availability, while a 3D preview shows the items stacking inside the recommended unit, with a human silhouette for scale.

Comparing sizes

A strip of cards below the preview lists every compatible size at the facility, each with its dimensions, price, any active promotion, and the same status as on the main storefront. The customer can click another card to see how their selection would fit there.

Booking or sharing

The Book this [size] button sends the customer to the regular booking flow to confirm price and availability — the guide never books anything on its own. If the recommended size is on the waiting list, the button becomes Join the waiting list. A Copy link button lets the customer save or send their selection; reopening that link reloads their item list and recalculates the recommendation against current availability.

What happens automatically

Between two sizes that both fit the selection, the guide always recommends the smallest available one rather than the smallest overall: an ideal but waitlisted size is only recommended when no available size fits. Units too short for a tall item are excluded even if the total volume would be enough. A vehicle and household items are never combined into one recommendation; the customer is asked to plan them separately. If the selection exceeds the largest unit, the guide offers to call or email the facility — those links only appear when a phone number or email is set on the storefront.

Statuses your customers may see

Status

Meaning

Recommended

The smallest available unit that fits the whole selection.

Comfortable

Big enough with room to spare, but not the recommendation.

Tight

Should fit, but with little room to spare.

Too small

Doesn't fit the current selection.

Waiting list

Big enough, but no physical unit is available right now.

Common issues

The guide's button doesn't appear on a facility.

Check first: is the Show the size guide on my storefront switch on under Settings → Storefront? It's off by default on every storefront.

Check next: at least one storage unit type (not just parking) must be visible on the storefront and have its width and length filled in. A facility that only rents parking doesn't show the guide's entry point, even though the tool can handle a "Parking" preset once opened another way.

A customer says the chat assistant isn't responding.

Check: this never blocks the storefront — the quick-add tiles and room presets keep working and recommending a size during an assistant outage. If it persists beyond a few minutes, contact support.

Common questions

Does the customer need an account to use the guide? No, no authentication is required for the storefront or the guide.

Does the guide book the unit automatically? No. It recommends a size; the customer always has to go through the regular booking flow to confirm price and availability and complete the rental.

Can I customize the guide's item list (furniture, boxes, vehicles)? Not yet: the item catalog is the same for every facility.

Is the guide available in English too? Yes, fully, including the chat assistant.
