For parking, RV (recreational vehicle) and vehicle spaces, Stortech can record the license plate of the vehicle occupying the spot. It helps with security and with identifying an unregistered vehicle on the lot. The field is optional and does not show on a standard storage unit.
Who this article is for
Entering and editing the plate is available to the Owner, Manager and Staff roles. At online signup, the customer fills the field in themselves.
Which units show the field
The field shows as soon as the unit type meets either of these conditions:
its Space type is Parking (the choice made when the unit type was created), or its category is parking, RV or vehicle.
So your older parking types work with no change needed: they just have to be set to the Parking space type.
Where the field appears
Online signup (storefront). If the customer picks an eligible spot, an optional License plate field appears in the customer details section, before the redirect to Stripe.
Manual rental. On the Create manual rental page, a License plate (optional) field appears as soon as the selected unit is eligible.

Rental page. For a rental already created on an eligible unit, a License plate card shows the plate, or No plate recorded when it is empty. Use Add or Edit to enter it, then Save.
Change the plate later
A customer can switch vehicles mid-rental. Open the rental page, then edit the plate to reflect the new vehicle.
The plate is recorded on the rental, not on the unit: it follows the tenant, not the spot.
What the field accepts
Free text, 15 characters maximum. There is no format validation and no check against a government registry.
Automatic uppercasing. What you type is converted to uppercase and extra spaces are removed.
One plate per rental. If there is a vehicle and a trailer on the same spot, only one plate can be recorded.
The plate does not appear on the lease or on access-control records, and reports cannot sort by plate.
Common problems
The license plate field doesn’t appear on a parking spot.
Check: open the unit type and look at its Space type and its category. The field stays hidden as long as the type is set to Storage with a standard storage category.
Do: set the unit type to the Parking space type, or classify it under the parking, RV or vehicle category. The field then appears on new rentals of that type.
